Thursday 17th July

Not much movement on the water today after a strenuous day yesterday.

We are moored near to this lovely old building which is now an upmarket home and garden ironworks. Some of the pieces were very futuristic but others would look lovely in the correct setting.

We walked to College Lake nature reserve - luckily finding the path through the woods rather than along a very busy road with no pavement.

It was a very hot day, the hottest of the year so far. We walked the 2 mile route around the reserve looking out of the various hides. I think that many of the animals were hiding in the shade!

I tried to take a few close-ups with our new camera using the close-up option. Varying degrees of success and I shall have to find time to read the 187 page instruction booklet. (Maybe not this holiday)

Spot the Damsel fly.

Our mooring was in a rather insect/bug area so we decided to move a little further down the canal to get away from some of the trees. Whilst going through the dark cutting of the Tring Summit we saw a sign for visitor moorings. The tow path at this point was dark and muddy. Not very inviting!

We are moored near Cowroast, what a great name and will travel through the locks to Berkhamstead tomorrow. It is all downhill now to the Thames. We are making good progress but you never know when an unexpected problem can pop up.
