Wednesday 3rd July

Well, here we go. We left the Marina at Willington, Derbyshire, at 10.15 and travelled south along the Trent and Mersey Canal. Our aim was to cover as much ground ( or water ) as we could as we have been along this stretch a few times and want to reach pastures new.

Although there was not a lot of traffic on the canal everyone said that Alrewas was very busy. Alrewas is a most attractive village with the canal passing lovely cottages and gardens. We looked at a house here when we were house hunting 4 years ago. That particular house would have required a great deal of work to convert the adjoining barn but the new owners now keep chickens and although we saw a pig in the garden when we passed in Easter 2012, the pig has now disappeared!

We kept checking the Tennis score and at 4.15 pm saw the the Murray game had started so when we found a mooring next to the last lock in Alrewas we decided to moor for the night and watch the tennis. What a nail biting match it proved to be!

We have also discovered that our camera is too old to connect via the memory card to the iPad. We'll have to see if there is another wire at home when we pop back there next week. I'll try to take some photos directly with the iPad tomorrow so that I can upload them or this blog is going to be very boring!
