Saturday 19th July

No storms last night although a showery start to the day. A pleasant walk along the high street and past Berkhamsted school to the Motte and Bailey castle ruins. A very nice town which was once the centre of straw plaiting for the haymakers of Dunstable and Luton.

After lunch we continued towards London. There were canal pubs at some of the locks. All nicely decorated with flowers and lots of gongoozlers confirms that the weather was lovely.

This totem pole was imported from Canada by the owner of the timber yard which stood on the site before it was developed for housing.

Impressive balance from this paddle boarder.

Once we left the outskirts of Berhamsted the scenery started to go downhill!

We moored for the night just below lock 63 opposite the Fishery Inn. It was full of Saturday evening diners making the most of the fine weather. We enjoyed the music which luckily finished at 11.30pm.
