Saturday 12th July

We woke to fog but it quickly dissipated and we headed for Gayton Junction and the daily water filling. How good it is to have servants ( oops! I mean crew).

We are heading to Brentford and London.

We had a quick look around Blisworth and the mill, which is now apartments, is a striking building. Hope they have a lift.

Soon it was tunnel time. Blisworth tunnel this time 3076 yards. It is wide enough for 2 narrowboats to pass and we did meet 2 whilst we were inside.

Graham said that it would be wet inside and donned a cagoule. He was right.

Although Alan looks very brave in this photo he was in fact ducking inside the boat whenever Chris and I saw falling water ahead. Here he is sheltering in the boat!

Back into the bright sunshine again for lunch outside, a visit to the Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum and then the 7 locks of this flight. Luckily there was a hire boat going down too. I steered the boat and my trusty lock crew did the strenuous work.

We went through the seven locks with another boat

Cruising along between locks. Everyone else had to walk!

Dinner was in 'The Coffee Pot Tavern' in Yardley Gobion. We were the only diners and apparently Saturday is a very quiet evening. The village is having a Scarecrow festival this week. Wonder what they would make of Urchfont's?
