Sunday 20th July

This morning we visited Frogmore Paper Mill. This section of the canal housed many paper mills with up to 5000 employees in buildings which lined the canal. Boats bringing coal, to produce the steam which powered the machines, positioned themselves under ventilation shafts to try to preserve a relatively clean and fume less environment. Most of the mills have been converted into housing or apartments but Frogmore Mill has been preserved and a trust is trying to stop some of the machines decaying even further.

Graham tried his hand at paper making.

Some of the machinery.

After cruising a few more miles it was time to moor up and watch Rory McIlroy win The Open.
