Wednesday 6th August

A look around Kingston this morning revealed an interesting collapsing Telephone Box art installation.

The facade of the Jack Wills shop is impressive with the note saying that Kingston was only confirmed as a Royal Borough in 1927 although the nearby Church had been the coronation point for early English kings.

The market place will look good when the renovations finally end - including the tourist information centre which apparently closed last October and there didn't seem to be a temporary office. There were a few market stalls and cafés and a statue of Queen Anne. The generator in front did not improve matters!

We left Kingston after lunch after discovering that the overnight rain had increased the level of the Thames by a couple of inches and jammed the front fender holder under the wooden strip on the quayside. We managed to get the boat off without damage but will be adjusting the fender height at future moorings.

Onward to Hampton Court avoiding trip boats, rowers, trainee dingy sailors on route. Good mooring next to the palace and Graham and I took a walk to see Molesey lock and the nearby individual shops. We won't be visiting the palace as we have been a few times before but it always looks impressive with fantastic brick work on the chimneys.

Dave and Kate arrived at 7.30 and we spent a lovely evening catching up on the news.
