Tuesday 12th August

We left just after 9am and cruised the few hundred yards to Boulter's Lock. We passed the Thames Riviera Hotel and Blue River Cafe where Fiona worked for 2 summers when a student.

It was interesting seeing all the places from the river as we had a home in Maidenhead for 12 years and  had watched the boats going through Boulter's lock from the tow path.

We were only able to glimpse Cliveden through the trees and couldn't see the swimming pool where John Profumo met Christine Keeler in July 1961.

We were both amazed by the proliferation of trees having become used to the wide expanses of arable fields in Wiltshire.

We cruised to Bourne End and then decided to retrace our route to Cookham to moor for a while and to try to arrange to see friends. Of course all the moorings which we had spotted 30mins earlier had gone and then it started to rain. Not gentle drizzle but the enormous rain drops which we have had in the heavy showers of the last few days. Graham managed to tuck the boat under a weeping willow tree so we had an unusual view from the riverside windows for the next couple of hours.

Just as quickly as the rain had started, the sun came out and this is now the boat from the river bank.

Chris and Brian cycled over from Taplow and we gave them a lift back to Maidenhead to the same mooring as last night! We were amazed at how much more quickly one travels when going downstream!

We are staying here until lunchtime tomorrow when friends from Venezuela should be joining us for a get together. Hoping to bring them aboard just upstream from Boulter's Lock. Forecast is good but the weather at the moment is so changeable. We were in Waitrose shopping this evening when there was another torrential downpour with thunder and lightning. Luckily we could wait until it passed and arrived back at the boat fairly dry.
