Sunday 4th August 2013

The view from our mooring spot as we woke this morning.

We were torn today as the local pub 'The Ring O Bells' holds brass band concerts each Sunday and we would have loved to stay and hear the 3pm performance but other museums which we wanted to visit are only open on certain days so we had to move on. We are already planning next year's route so will try to catch a concert then. So we spent the morning washing the exterior paintwork on the boat and cleaning the windows. Then it was southward bound on the Macclesfield canal. As we left Marple we passed the Goyt Mill. Unfortunately the chimney has been removed but the building is still being used by small businesses. Much better than being pulled down.

Currently moored at Higher Poynton. We visited the Nelson Pit Visitor Centre and the Anson Engine Musuem. This latter was most interesting - even to the two of us who know very little about the workings of the huge engines. Some were working and this particular model seemed to be capable of printing money. Unfortunately none came our way.

Pickfords can trace their origins back to an 18th century Waggoner from Poynton. Think their advertising is a little more modern now.

On the walk back the rain was quite heavy so we felt it necessary to shelter in The Boar's Head for a little refreshment. Back to the boat between showers and the rain is now coming down at 45 degrees. Glad we are in for the night.
