Tuesday 12th July 2016

Day1 of the 2016 adventure and we only hope that the weather gets better as the days go by.
After driving up to the Marina yesterday we woke to cloud and then drizzle and then rain followed by heavier rain!

This photo is of our boat in the Marina - it is the one with the cream bow.

We delayed leaving until noon when there was a break in the dark clouds and headed west on the Trent and Mersey canal.

At least the weather suited the swans.

The rain continued all afternoon so we just kept going. We passed Wychnor church and negotiated the narrow bridge. The wider opening is blocked by rocks.

The canal passes by a marshy section with drainage channels where the towpath is carried over a mill stream, the main channel and a succession of reedy backwaters by a series of metal footbridges. Each one required a number so they are 45a - g.

For most of the afternoon we were following, and meeting up at locks, two boats with Australian tourists. They have been here for a month and according to them it has rained all the time!

We moored at Alrewas which is a lovely village. Usually we take a walk around admiring the houses and gardens. This time we closed the doors, put the heating on and hunkered down for the night.

Please send the sun! ☀️
