Thursday 14th July 2016

Sunshine! Still tending to be on the cool side but a welcome change from grey skies and rain.
We intended to cover 14 locks today but the volunteer lock helper on the Curdworth flight suggested a 'safer' place to moor. We therefore had a short day stopping at lunchtime just after the Curdworth tunnel.
One aspect of today's 11 locks which we hadn't come across often is that the bottom gate is one gate and not 2 halves. This makes it very difficult to move and after Graham had to come to my aid on the first 2 locks I steered and Graham worked the locks. There were some helpers at the last few locks which was a treat.

Also at this lock I could see a traditional funfair in the distance. It seems to be in the middle of a field with no houses for prospective visitors.

I rather liked these poppies growing at one lock.

The top lock of the Curdworth flight had to be rebuilt when the M6 toll was built. This is the view looking back at the road.

We had a look around the church in Curdworth and then Graham completed a few jobs while I finished off some net curtains for the front doors and side hatch so that I can keep them open but try to keep the insects out!

Long day tomorrow but we hope to make the centre of Birmingham.
