Sunday 17th July 2016

Beautiful hot weather today. Birmingham is built on 7 hills (just like Rome) and we have certainly walked up and down them all. We started the day by visiting another time warp museum. This one made "jewellery" for coffins and shrouds! The owner left in 1996 and it is just as it was then. Although she left in 1996 many of the items were from the 50's and 60's. Photos show the pressing room where the adornments to the coffins were made, the sewing room and the office. Definitely no Health and Safety in those days.

We then did some food shopping in preparation for a few more days on the canals and in the late afternoon took the train to Bournville to see the garden village which the Cadbury Brothers set up for their workers. They were Quakers and very keen on education for both the children and the factory workers. They prohibited any alcohol being sold and that rule still applies today.

Tonight we treated ourselves to a lovely steak at an Argentinian steakhouse. The weather was so good we were able to sit outside.

We have slightly changed our route for the summer and will be heading off to Stratford Upon Avon tomorrow.
