Saturday 17th June

We've reached Leeds having had the most fabulous weather as we sailed along the Aire and Calder navigation. Just look at the sky as we passed this flour mill ( and this was at 8.30am)

Ferrybridge is an enormous power station which we have passed many times by road on our trips to the North East. It actually looks more impressive from the road but we had to have a water shot.

Old and new roads leading to the north and there is now an even newer motorway bypass.

After Ferrybridge we were surprised at how rural the navigation became.

There are some big boats moored on this stretch.

A disused coal shute perhaps?

Bottoms up!

Under the M1

Not long after this we went through a truly enormous lock, Lemonroyd Lock. It was 14' deep, about 150-200' long and about 40' wide. Graham looked tiny as we were the only boat in. No photos as I was too worried that I may never see Graham again. Still we survived and stopped above the lock for lunch to allow our heart rates to return to normal!

We entered Leeds and this is the first lock on the Leeds and Liverpool canal as we start our journey over the Penines.

We are moored just outside the Double Tree Hilton hotel and people are out enjoying the lovely sunshine.

We are off to eat and will spend tomorrow exploring Leeds.
