Monday 19th June 2017

A beautiful evening as we sit on the back of the boat enjoying the slightly lower temperatures compared with earlier today.

We left our mooring in Leeds about 8.15 am but it was 9am before we had gone 100 yds! These locks are unlike anything we have seen before. The ground paddles have horizontal handles with a left hand screw action. Sometimes the turning handle is fixed but at other times you need to use your windlass. Adding into the mix is that sometimes you need an anti vandal key or a CRT key or both or neither! Still we got through the first lock, filled with water and we're on our way. No photos of cruising today, we were busy with staircase locks and swing bridges which also needed the above mentioned keys. One of the guide books describes this as bandit country, but we saw no trouble and there were some lockkeeper stop help on the staircase locks.

We moored just before 2pm at Rodley and had a restful afternoon. We did take a walk down to the River Aire to see an old packhorse bridge.

Luckily there was a cute little tearoom nearby for an ice cream and a cup of Yorkshire tea.

Back along the canal and past another family of swans.

One photo which I did forget to add yesterday was the pavement marker in Leeds for the Tour de France in 2014.
