Friday 30th June/Saturday 1st July

Cloudy but dry has been the weather for the last 2 days. No sunshine but NO rain. We completed the Greenberfield set of locks and went to the cafe at the canal summit to celebrate with bacon butties. Disappointment - no hot food on Fridays! However the Sanitary station did have some cute chicks nesting above the door.

We finally passed the Yorkshire/Lancashire border and the scenery was lovely along this stretch.

The roller by the side of this bridge is to protect the brickwork when the horses pulled the canal boats.

The roots of this tree are well above the ground.

We moored for Friday night at Foulridge and were ready for the tunnel at 9am on Saturday morning. You can only enter from this direction for 10mins after the hour so we didn't want to miss the slot although there are not many boats moving about.

The tunnel is about 1 mile long and completely straight as you could see daylight at the end as soon as you entered.

We shared the next set of locks with a couple and Chris had to get to grips with yet another variety of ground paddle.

She and Graham had to watch that they didn't get washed by the leaking gate paddles.

The person who used this chair certainly wanted to cool off.

Unfortunately the Lancashire side of the Leeds and Liverpool canal has been much dirtier than the Yorkshire side and Graham has been finding plastic bags wrapped round the propeller.

As we crossed the Burnley Aquaduct the lines of chimney pots made an impressive sight.

We moored at Weavers Triangle visitors' centre which was open and enjoyed excellent exhibitions of life in Burnley when it was a great cotton producing town. Tim tried his hand at weaving.

A local man had built a working model of a typical fairground which would have been visiting in the 1930's. Such detailed work.

As you can see our mooring was very quiet.
