Tuesday 2nd August 2016

BWell, at least it has stopped raining cats and dogs! It has been somewhat grey today and we did have a few showers this morning but nothing like yesterday. The humidity has also been higher and it has felt quite warm at times.

We left Haws Bridge and headed towards Tewkesbury. This photo is of the Abbey on a misty August day.

Upper Lode lock is the biggest we have been through with room for many boats. The rise is not great but it takes a while to fill due to the sheer size of the lock which seems to have two chambers as it was  enlarged to take ships making their way to Worcester oil terminal which hasn't been in use for years.

Instead of turning into the River Avon we carried straight on up the Severn to Upton on Severn. The current was obviously against us but we had left the tidal effect of the Severn behind at Upper Lode Lock.

Past Tewkesbury we went under the Mythe Bridge and also the M50.

The river is still used for some commercial activity and we passed an aggregate depot although no work was taking place today.

Upton on Severn is a pretty town which holds lots of music festivals, has lots of antique shops and numerous pubs. It would be a shame not to visit one in order to get wifi to post this blog! ( phone and wifi signal still non existant at river level)
