The Courts of Justice are in a modern building next to the canal.
Although many new apartment blocks have been built overlooking the canal the city has not embraced the 'entertainment' potential of the canal like Birmingham has. Whereas in the latter the ground floor of most buildings is a bar or restaurant, Nottingham seems to have left them bare without even businesses in many blocks.
Onward past Nottingham Forest football ground with a good view of The Brian Clough Stand.
We had now rejoined The Trent ( you pass through Nottingham on a canal ) and the wind was certainly picking up. Narrow boats are hard to handle in windy conditions and we decided to moor for the night on the approach to Holme Lock. Moorings on rivers are few and far between and as rain was forecast we didn't want to take our chances and end up in trouble in the middle of the river. As you can see the water was decidedly choppy. In the distance are the sluice gates which can be operated to keep the surrounding area safe from flooding.
By Holme Lock is the National Water Sports Centre so we took a walk to watch the white water rafting.
